By 2050, 68% of the world’s population will be living in cities. Cities are becoming the central governance system that disseminates knowledge, innovation while being exposed to complex shocks and stresses which can no longer be addressed by traditional urban planning practices. While urban planning is agile in adapting frontier technology to create efficient infrastructures, it often fails in keeping people at the center. Urban Renewal, Urban regeneration are examples of promoting positive ROI over long term socio-economic impact.

Atlanta is one of 100 Resilient Cities selected by Rockefeller Foundation and one of the first US cities to increase its commitment towards the Paris Agreement ( f.e.100% renewable energy by 2030). This session will focus on how Atlanta's local government agencies and civil society (nonprofits) further the smart city agenda while keeping inclusion at the center. A few methodologies discussed will include participatory design, deep community engagement, art-as-a-solution, knowledge democratization among others.
